Abstract

Floor transfers require strength, balance, joint mobility, and coordination. Daily sitting, kneeling, work, and household arrangements also determine opportunities to practise these movements. To examine how personal ground-contact history should enter the interpretation of adult floor-transfer assessments. Adult transfer studies were compared by starting posture, instructions, support rules, timing, sample, and clinical outcome. The sitting--rising test was associated with mortality in cohorts of 2,002 and 4,282 adults. Video and motion-analysis studies identified several successful floor-rise routes, while task comparisons and training trials demonstrated condition-dependent performance. In the Hadza posture example, approximately 30% of device-classified sitting/lying time consisted of squatting or kneeling. These observations show why task completion, contact sequence, posture, and joint demand require separate records. They do not establish an effect of habitual exposure on the meaning of a clinical score. The clinical score should retain its established administration and deductions. Individual practice history, symptoms, support use, and movement sequence provide additional observations for examining score interpretation. Exposure-related calibration differences require direct testing against strength, balance, and joint-mobility measurements before clinical scoring changes are justified.
