Peer Review

Sport Science – International Scientific Journal of Kinesiology applies a single-blind peer review process to evaluate the scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, and relevance of manuscripts submitted for publication. Under this model, reviewers are informed of the authors' identities, whereas reviewers' identities remain confidential and are not disclosed to the authors. The review process is conducted independently and is intended to ensure the integrity, credibility, and scholarly quality of published research.

1. Initial Editorial Assessment

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial assessment by the editorial team to determine their suitability for the journal. This assessment considers alignment with the journal's aims and scope, originality, scientific relevance, manuscript preparation, methodological adequacy, and compliance with ethical and publication requirements. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be declined without external peer review.

2. Selection of Reviewers

Manuscripts considered suitable for further evaluation are assigned to independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the subject of the submission. Reviewers are selected on the basis of their academic qualifications, research experience, and ability to provide an objective scientific assessment. Individuals with actual or potential conflicts of interest are expected to decline the review invitation.

3. External Peer Review

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts according to their scientific originality, contribution to existing knowledge, appropriateness of the research design, methodological reliability, accuracy of data analysis, interpretation of findings, adequacy of references, and clarity of presentation. Reviewers provide constructive comments and recommendations to support an informed editorial decision. All manuscripts and associated review materials must be treated as confidential.

4. Editorial Decision

Following consideration of the reviewers' reports, the responsible editor determines the appropriate editorial decision. Possible outcomes include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection. Editorial decisions are based on the scientific merit of the manuscript, the reviewers' assessments, and the journal's editorial standards. The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief or an authorized handling editor.

5. Revision and Reassessment

Authors invited to revise their manuscripts are expected to address the reviewers' and editors' comments carefully and submit a revised manuscript accompanied by a point-by-point response explaining the changes made. Revised submissions may undergo further evaluation by the original reviewers, additional reviewers, or the handling editor, depending on the nature and extent of the revisions. A request for revision does not guarantee acceptance.

6. Final Acceptance and Publication

Manuscripts are accepted only after the editorial team determines that the applicable scientific, methodological, ethical, and editorial requirements have been satisfactorily addressed. Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, production, and publication in accordance with the journal's editorial procedures.

7. Confidentiality and Research Integrity

Editors and reviewers are required to maintain confidentiality throughout the evaluation process and to disclose any circumstances that may compromise their impartiality. Reviewers must not use unpublished material for personal or professional advantage. Suspected plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, or other forms of research misconduct are subject to editorial investigation and appropriate action in accordance with recognized principles of publication ethics.

8. Editorial Independence and Open Access

Sport Science operates under a diamond open access publishing model and does not charge authors article processing charges (APCs) or publication fees. Editorial decisions are made independently of financial considerations and are based exclusively on scholarly and ethical criteria. Published articles are made freely accessible under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, permitting sharing and adaptation with appropriate attribution to the original authors and source.

Publication Ethics

Sport Science – International Scientific Journal of Kinesiology is committed to maintaining high standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct in scholarly publishing. The journal's editorial policies are informed by the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Authors, editors, reviewers, and other participants in the publication process are expected to uphold the principles of academic honesty, scientific responsibility, and professional conduct.

1. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts present original, accurate, and scientifically sound research. Submitted work must not contain fabricated or falsified data, misleading interpretations, plagiarism, or inappropriate manipulation of research findings. Authors must provide a transparent account of the research methods, results, and limitations and acknowledge all sources that have contributed to their work.

All listed authors must have made substantial intellectual contributions to the research, participated in preparing or critically reviewing the manuscript, approved the final version, and accepted responsibility for the integrity of the work. Individuals who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately. Guest, honorary, and ghost authorship are not permitted.

2. Originality, Plagiarism, and Duplicate Publication

Manuscripts submitted to the journal must represent original scholarly contributions and must not be under consideration by another journal simultaneously. Authors must appropriately acknowledge previously published research and obtain permission when reproducing copyrighted material that is not otherwise available for reuse under an applicable license or legal exception.

Plagiarism, self-plagiarism involving substantial undisclosed reuse, redundant publication, citation manipulation, and misrepresentation of research findings are unacceptable. Suspected violations may result in rejection, withdrawal of a manuscript from consideration, or appropriate post-publication action following editorial investigation.

3. Research Ethics and Informed Consent

Research involving human participants must comply with applicable institutional, national, and international ethical standards, including the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki where relevant. Authors must obtain approval from an appropriate research ethics committee or institutional review board when required and provide details of ethical approval within the manuscript.

Informed consent must be obtained from research participants when applicable. For studies involving minors or individuals unable to provide independent consent, appropriate permission from parents, legal guardians, or authorized representatives must be secured in accordance with applicable ethical requirements. Participant confidentiality, privacy, and personal information must be protected. Research involving animals must comply with relevant institutional and national regulations governing animal welfare.

4. Data Integrity and Transparency

Authors must ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data presented in their manuscripts. Research methods and analytical procedures should be described sufficiently to permit scientific evaluation. Fabrication, falsification, selective misrepresentation, and inappropriate alteration of data, images, or statistical results are prohibited.

Authors may be requested to provide supporting data, documentation, or methodological clarification when concerns arise regarding the accuracy or integrity of their findings. Research data should be retained in accordance with applicable institutional, ethical, and legal requirements. Data availability statements are encouraged, subject to legitimate restrictions concerning privacy, confidentiality, and intellectual property.

5. Conflicts of Interest and Funding Disclosure

Authors must disclose financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the conduct, interpretation, or presentation of their research. All sources of research funding and relevant institutional support must be acknowledged. Editors and reviewers are likewise required to disclose potential conflicts of interest and withdraw from evaluating manuscripts when their impartiality may be compromised.

6. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts receive fair, impartial, and confidential consideration. Editorial decisions must be based on scientific merit, originality, methodological quality, ethical compliance, and relevance to the journal's aims and scope, without discrimination based on nationality, gender, institutional affiliation, political views, or other irrelevant personal characteristics.

Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and avoid using unpublished information for personal advantage. Submissions involving editors, editorial board members, or individuals with close professional relationships must be handled by an independent editor without a relevant conflict of interest. The Editor-in-Chief retains responsibility for the integrity and independence of editorial decisions.

7. Responsibilities of Reviewers

The journal follows a single-blind peer review process in which reviewers are aware of authors' identities, while reviewers' identities remain confidential. Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, timely, and evidence-based evaluations of submitted manuscripts.

Reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential documents, refrain from using unpublished material for personal benefit, identify relevant scholarly work that has not been appropriately acknowledged, and disclose any competing interests. Reviewers who lack the necessary expertise or cannot provide an impartial assessment should decline the review invitation.

8. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors must disclose the use of generative artificial intelligence tools when such tools have materially contributed to manuscript preparation, data analysis, image generation, or other substantive aspects of the research. Artificial intelligence tools cannot be credited as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of scholarly work.

Authors remain fully accountable for all submitted content, including material produced or assisted by artificial intelligence. The use of such technologies must not compromise research integrity, confidentiality, intellectual property rights, or transparency. Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscript content to external artificial intelligence systems without appropriate authorization and adequate safeguards.

9. Handling Allegations of Research Misconduct

Allegations of plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, authorship manipulation, unethical research practices, compromised peer review, or other forms of misconduct are assessed carefully and impartially. The editorial team may request explanations or supporting documentation from the individuals concerned and, where necessary, consult relevant institutions or research integrity authorities.

Editorial actions are determined according to the nature and seriousness of the concern, the available evidence, and established publication ethics principles. All parties involved should be treated fairly, and confidentiality should be maintained to the extent reasonably possible during an investigation.

10. Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

The journal is committed to maintaining the reliability and integrity of the scholarly record. When significant errors are identified in published articles, appropriate corrective measures may include the publication of a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction, depending on the circumstances.

Corrections are issued when errors require clarification without invalidating the principal findings. Retractions may be issued when findings are unreliable because of serious methodological errors, research misconduct, unethical practices, or other substantial concerns. Expressions of concern may be published when serious questions about an article remain unresolved. Editorial notices should clearly identify the affected publication and explain the reasons for the action.

11. Complaints and Appeals

Authors and other interested parties may submit complaints concerning editorial procedures, publication ethics, or alleged misconduct to the journal's editorial office. Authors may also appeal editorial decisions by providing a reasoned explanation supported by relevant evidence. Complaints and appeals are evaluated impartially, with appropriate measures taken to manage potential conflicts of interest. Appeals do not automatically result in reconsideration or acceptance of a manuscript.

12. Open Access, Copyright, and Licensing

Sport Science operates under a diamond open access publishing model. All published articles are freely accessible to readers, and authors are not required to pay article processing charges (APCs) or submission fees. Financial considerations do not influence manuscript evaluation or editorial decisions.

Editorial Process

Sport Science – International Scientific Journal of Kinesiology follows a structured editorial process designed to ensure the scientific quality, originality, integrity, and relevance of published research. All manuscripts are evaluated according to established academic and ethical standards, with editorial decisions based on scientific merit, methodological rigor, and conformity with the journal's aims and scope. The editorial process encompasses preliminary screening, peer review, editorial evaluation, manuscript revision, final acceptance, and publication.

1. Manuscript Submission

Authors submit manuscripts electronically through the journal's online submission system. Submissions must comply with the journal's author guidelines, manuscript preparation requirements, and publication ethics policies. Authors are responsible for providing accurate manuscript information, complete authorship details, relevant ethical declarations, funding information, and disclosures of potential conflicts of interest.

2. Preliminary Editorial Screening

Upon submission, manuscripts undergo an initial assessment by the editorial team to determine their suitability for further evaluation. The screening considers relevance to the journal's aims and scope, scientific originality, methodological adequacy, clarity of presentation, adherence to submission requirements, and compliance with research ethics. Manuscripts may also be examined for plagiarism, substantial textual overlap, duplicate publication, and other concerns regarding research integrity. Submissions that do not satisfy the journal's minimum editorial standards may be rejected without external peer review.

3. Editorial Assignment

Manuscripts that successfully complete the preliminary assessment are assigned to an appropriate handling editor based on the subject matter and required disciplinary expertise. The handling editor oversees the scientific evaluation, selects qualified reviewers, evaluates their recommendations, and ensures that editorial procedures are conducted impartially. Potential conflicts of interest are considered when assigning editorial responsibilities.

4. Peer Review Evaluation

The journal employs a single-blind peer review system in which reviewers are aware of the authors' identities, while reviewers' identities remain confidential. Manuscripts are evaluated by independent specialists with relevant academic and research expertise. Reviewers assess the originality and significance of the research, appropriateness of the study design, methodological soundness, analytical accuracy, interpretation of results, adequacy of references, and overall scientific contribution. Their evaluations provide the basis for informed editorial decisions.

5. Editorial Decision

Following the assessment of peer review reports, the handling editor evaluates the reviewers' observations and determines the appropriate recommendation. Editorial decisions may include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection. Where reviewers provide conflicting assessments or further scientific clarification is required, additional expert evaluation may be requested. The final publication decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief or an authorized editor on the basis of scientific quality, ethical compliance, and the journal's editorial standards.

6. Manuscript Revision

Authors invited to revise their manuscripts must address the editorial and reviewer comments and submit a revised version accompanied by a detailed response explaining how the concerns have been resolved. Revised manuscripts are reassessed by the handling editor and may be returned to the original reviewers or additional specialists when necessary. Acceptance is dependent on the satisfactory resolution of substantive scientific and editorial concerns.

7. Final Acceptance

A manuscript is accepted for publication only after the editorial team determines that it meets the journal's scientific, methodological, ethical, and presentation requirements. The acceptance decision is communicated to the corresponding author through the journal's editorial management system. Accepted manuscripts subsequently enter the production stage.

8. Copyediting and Production

Accepted manuscripts undergo editorial preparation, including language review, consistency checks, reference verification, formatting, and preparation of publication files. Authors may be requested to examine the final proofs to identify typographical or production errors. Substantive modifications affecting the scientific content require editorial approval. The production process is intended to ensure accuracy, readability, and consistency with the journal's publication standards.

9. Publication and Dissemination

Following completion of the editorial and production procedures, accepted articles are published electronically on the journal's website. Sport Science operates under a diamond open access model, providing immediate and unrestricted access to published research without charging article processing charges (APCs), submission fees, or publication fees. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, permitting sharing, reproduction, and adaptation with appropriate attribution.

10. Post-Publication Responsibilities

The journal maintains editorial responsibility for the integrity of the scholarly record following publication. Concerns regarding published articles, including substantial errors, ethical violations, or research misconduct, are examined in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies. Where justified, appropriate actions may include the publication of corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions. Authors, editors, and reviewers are expected to cooperate in resolving legitimate post-publication concerns.

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently of financial, institutional, commercial, or personal interests. The journal is committed to fair evaluation, confidentiality, transparency, and responsible scholarly communication.
